We welcomed Dexter Harry (surname) into the world on 23/01/16 (two weeks early) Weighing a lovely 6.5lb (a lot smaller than estimated weight!!!
Traumatic birth- went to Mau due to reduced movements. Ctg was fine but as it was our second visit due to reduced movements (albeit 10 weeks apart) the doctor scanned us there and then where he checked fluid levels and blood blow in the cord. All appeared fine (fluid a little low but still within normal realms) but our lb wasn't moving! Had a lovely strong hb but no matter what the doctor did he just didn't move! The doctor decided there and then that I was to be induced! Pessary inserted at 2am and by 5 am I was having contraction, couldn't get any sleep on the triage ward due to pain and snorers. Throughout today my pains increases and got closer together and by 2pm I was 5 cm dilated! Off we went to the birth suit ( we had originally planned to have him at our local birth centre.
I managed to still get a birth pool but had to get out as it seemed to slow contractions and bubbs heart rate kept going to high.
By this point contractions were painful and I was re-examined and found to be only 4cm!! :-( So they made the decision to break my waters fully (had only been trickling). Wow this shot my contractions through the roof to the point I was literally screaming the birth suite down (how embarrassing!!) They were so painful I was nearly in tears begging for an epidural (something I wanted to avoid!!) They couldn't do it as all the doctors who could approve it were in surgery, all I could have was a shot of diamorphine! This didn't kick in for a good while but I started getting the urge to push! Once the diamorphine kicked in and I had got used to the surge in painful contractions I calmed down and with gas and air our lb entered the world naturally at 9.16pm. We are both besotted with him. We've to stay in hospital one night due go the time of being born but hoping to be going home tomorrow. I'll post a picture tomorrow of him in his gping home outfit :-)
Wanted to say a huge thank you to all your lovely ladies for all your help, support and kind words, this board has truly been a godsend at times.
One thing ladies make sure you've got everything ready, we thought we still had 2 weeks and poor dh had to go and pick the pram and crib up from the shop yesterday morning and my dad built it whilst dh came to the hospital to be with me. Otherwise we had no where for our lo to sleep when we brought him home :-O
Love Claire & baby Dexter. Xx
