Baby Euan Hunter Cairns entered the world at 3.26am on Monday 15th July weighing 6lbs 6oz. He is absolutely perfect.
After my waters broke on Sunday, I started contracting about 6pm, by 11pm they were getting really strong and coming 3 mins apart so we headed for hospital. I continued contracting but due to waters being gone they were reluctant to do too many internal examinations due to infection risk. MW could still feel some of baby's head not engaged so let me carry on. I spent some time in the bath to ease the pain and was using gas & air. Baby was back to back for a while so pain was pretty bad. I had diamorphine injection about 1.45am and I was feeling really strong pressure and felt I was doing involuntary pushes, I then had an internal examination about 2.30am & I was fully dilated!!
I was then allowed to push at my own rate when contracting and he was born naturally at 3.26am. I needed 2 small stitches but all was well. Euan's temperature dropped a little after birth so he spent some time yesterday in a hot cot beside my bed. He's taken a while to get to grips with feeding so yesterday I mostly expressed and fed him with a syringe. He's made progress with this during the night and we seem to be getting the hang of it now. We are hoping to get home today, just waiting to get checked over.
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone on this board for your support and inspiration since we lost our angel last yr, I still can't believe our rainbow is here safe and sound, I can't stop looking at him, he's so gorgeous. I'll post some photos once we get home.
