Good morning ladies,
Six years ago I had a TFMR for severe spina bifida and hydrocephalus of my little angel. A lot had happened since then and I am now 9 weeks pregnant for the first time since with my new partner.
I am sure you all appreciate and had the anxiety that comes with a rainbow baby and my head is all over the place at the moment. I missed my booking appointment on Thursday as I was sure it was Friday and showed up a day late! I was mortified and felt bad for the midwife and upset that I didn't get to talk things through.
I now have mine a week on Monday but I wanted some advice about what I can expect in terms of care. I was told last time that I would be consultant led for all future pregnancies and that I would have a scan at 8, 12, 16 and 20 weeks. When my Dr printed off the letter on the file it said that I would have scans at 12, 16 and 20 but the consultants would be happy to see me before to reassure.
Can I ask if all your scans were done by the consultants and does consultant care mean the whole way through pregnancy or do you go back to midwife led if you get the all clear? Also, did anyone have an 8 week scan with previous spina bifida for general reassurance (I know they can't see anything to do with the spine this early)? I'm on holiday for two weeks now so I am thinking I should ask to see the consultants, as my letter offers, to talk things through. Did anyone else early on?
Thank you for your advice ladies? I'd love to hear any happy rainbow stories after a spina bifida tfmr.
