Sorry the story is late and my punctuation may be all over the place with my tiredness all over the place still. So bare with me and I hope I include everything in don't miss out on things. So here we go...
Went for dinner at my mates on Saturday and started to feel tightenings and had a feeling it might be happening. This was around 8.30pm and told df that we might need to go home because I was having a few and not timing them really. At 9.15pm we went home and I had a few little pains and went to spare bed to stretch out and try and sleep. Told df to get some sleep just incase and I was right contractions started to come and we went mau. Went there and was only 1cm and was given codeine. Sent home and was told she will see me in a few hours.
Went back to sil's closer to hospital and she was away, but only managed a few more hours there because every time I laid or sat down I had horrible lower back pain. Df managed to slee for this after me forcing him to gain some energy for me. Went back in at 7/8am (forgot time) and was told I was 2/3cm and will go up to ward to get an injection for pain relief and will labour to establish labour there. At 12.15pm I was in established labour and was sent up to midwifery led ward with pool to labour. I had to wait until I was 7cm to be able to use that. Had back pain up there and started to get bad pack pain. So at 4.15pm midwife said waters hadn't broken and asked if I wanted to try some rose and lemon oil to bring on more contractions and possibly aid waters to break (I think that's what it was for) and she would examine me at 6pm and go from there. So 6.15pm come and I was still 6cm dilated and in pain but coping on gas and air but painful. She then broke the news that I was not in the right place and that I should go delivery ward. I agreed and that there i would my waters broken and put on a hormone drip and I demanded an epidural.
Had to wait here for a room and the intense pain got too much and even though tens machine and gas and air helped the pain was too intense. I was told baby was back to back and face looking up. Few hours later finally went down and again had to wait another few hours for an epidural. Got it fitted but was still feeling pain with boosting it and having it topped up. Anaesthetists said that if last boost doesn't work she will re do it (this was a new one that had come on Shift). Few more hours past and babies heart rate started to really stop and they were concerned of oxygen levels and that, so wanted to scrape babies head for some blood. Head consultant said we needed to samples for one to be a back up. Whilst the second scrape was being done df asked if my epidural was supposed to be leaking down the bottom. Epidural hadn't even been fitted properly or had come out early on! I knew something wasn't right because I was feeling all the pain. Second scrape was being done and anaesthesist said she needed to wait on results before stepping in. Results came in and was low and was told I needed c section NOW! Df started crying but trying to stay strong and I was so glad and happy I was having a c section and was whisked off. It was that quick they started to cut me open whilst nurse was attaching the divider thing in front of my face and df was walking through.
Moments later I heard my daughter cry and it was the best sound I have ever heard in my life! She was then whisked across to get checked and weighed. Df cut the cord and wanted me to hold her first. I held her on chest for a minute or two and then gave her to df.
I never done a birth plan as such, but I wanted the midwife ward and skin to skin and even though I didn't get that I have my little girl sat sleeping in front of me and I will be forever grateful. She will know about her Angel sister Isla and when I can walk better we are going to her grave to lay some beautiful roses down.
