Well my little man finally made an appearance yesterday, 11 days late.

I started having contractions that woke me up about 4.30 Thursday morning. They were getting closer together but slowed right down mid-morning. They started picking up again in the evening. Got down to 5 mins apart lasting 50s. Called hospital and they said to wait until 3-5mins apart and a minute long. I had my show and then contractions slowed down again! They got back to 5 mins apart and were really painful by 12.30am fri. So we went to hospital thinking they'd probably send me home. Midwife observed me and said she'd examine cervix but that from contractions I'd probably be going home.... I was 3-4cm dilated! So they let us stay. I was in agony and was given diamorphine. My contractions never got closer together than 5 mins. Was reviewed 4hrs later and midwife told husband they'd have to send me home because my contractions hadn't picked up. She examined cervix and was 5cm - she was gobsmacked and said I was in active labour so could stay!! Plus I could have gas and air - woo hoo!

A shift change and another 4hrs I was reviewed again at 10.30. Was up to 8cm and allowed to get in birthing pool. After waiting for water to run got in just before 11. Things picked up pretty quickly then and baby was born, still in membrane at 11.55. He was handed to me completely blue but was reassured this was normal.

My husband then held him and I was assisted out of pool to deliver placenta in bed. I had second degree tears and got stitched up. Finally got to hold baby and feed him. They then weighed him and he came in at 10lbs exactly!!!

We stayed at hospital until the evening when we were both checked out and discharged. Was a relief to be home and to have my rainbow with me.

xx
